WHO WE ARE
Injury Prevention Initiative for Africa (IPIFA) is an association that works to address the high burden of injuries and promote evidence-based interventions that protect Africans from injuries. We aim to be the continent’s leading authority on injury prevention and control. We study injuries and research the best ways to prevent them, applying science and creating real-world solutions to keep people safe, healthy, and productive. We advocate for the prevention and control of all types of injuries, both intentional and unintentional, to influence both the general population and the leadership on our continent.

Read MoreOUR MISSION
Our mission is to accomplish the following tasks.
- To act as a liaison for Africa with international and continental stakeholders in injury control and mobilize both local and international resources for injury prevention in Africa.
- Assist in increasing the capacity of African countries to prevent and control injuries by providing financial assistance, technical aid, management consultation and help in assessing the problem of injuries, establishing and evaluating surveillance systems, planning injury prevention and control programs and evaluating injury prevention and control activities.
- Provide leadership in developing and executing a national program for occupational and non-occupational injury prevention and control with federal agencies, voluntary and private sector organizations throughout the continent.
- Plan, direct, conduct and support research focused on development and evaluation of strategies to prevent and control injuries, and the dissemination of research findings to and from federal agencies, private organizations, and other national and international groups.
- Serve as the principal focus for training programs to increase the number and competence of personnel engaged in injury prevention and control research or practice.

Meet The board Members
Tsegazeab Laeke
A Neurosurgeon by profession and Fellow of College of Surgeons of Eastern, Central and South Africa. He is working at Addis Ababa University and Assistant professor of neurosurgery at the College of Health Sciences, Division of Neurosurgery. He is a PhD fellow at the University of Bergen, his project mainly focusing on Neurotrauma Care in Ethiopia.
He is the current Secretary of the Society of Ethiopian Neurological Surgery Professionals. He is involved in clinical research with his main interest being trauma related research. He is a PI of a multidisciplinary thematic research focusing on Traumatic Brain Injury: Its Epidemiology, Diagnosis and Treatment in Black Lion Hospital and major regional hospitals. He is a Co-PI of the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Neurotrauma.

Seye Mesfin Minas
General and pediatric surgeon who was working at Ayder Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Ethiopia for seven years. Currently working at Jhpiego Ethiopia as a quality surgical advisor on a project focusing on improving surgical outcomes by improving surgical systems.

Abenezer Titsit Aklilu
Working as a neurosurgeon for last 7 years at Addis Ababa University. PhD fellow at UiB, Norway with research thesis on children with Neural tube defect and hydrocephalus in Ethiopia. Currently A/Head of Neurosurgery Division at AAU and President of Society of Ethiopian Neurological Surgery Professionals .PI of a thematic research on “micronutrients relevant to Neural tube defect and management of Neural tube defect in selected hospitals in Ethiopia “, adaptive research on “the value of ultrasound to indirectly measure ICP in traumatic brain injury patients” and CO – PI of the NIHR Global Health Research Group on Neurotrauma .

Kidest Tebebe Ketema
Extensive years of experience in the service industry with immense exposure in the areas of Sales, marketing, negotiation of service contracts, human management and customer Services. She has demonstrated her capabilities on leadership, organization and time management on the various roles she had on her career path
Diversified her skills and knowledge by representing Ethiopian Airlines as Station Manager in Frankfurt, Germany and later joined an international Ground Handling company in London and worked in the management post overlooking the overall operation and service delivery to customer Airlines.
BA in Economics from Addis Ababa University and further pursued MBA at University of Leicester, U.K., specializing in Service Marketing.
